Dante

Been reading Dante's Inferno a very interesting book but a little hard to get through because of the archaic sentence structure. It is Dante and Virgil in the Forest of Suicides, one of the sections in Hell, one of the parts that was really visually memorable to me. These spirits had grown into trees because they cast away their bodies on earth so they are not even allowed the shadow of a body in Hell.

Semester over

A couple faeries from my sketchbook, inspired by Froud the master faerie drawing. Its rad having time to draw whatever I want.

Letters

We had to design a font for the final project for advanced type.
All my brothers and sister provided me with more than enough shoe prints. Was a really fun project, and class, I recommend it to all you other illustrators.

portrait

First oil painting I've done on masonite. I like it a lot better than canvas.

A painting for fun. While listening to Kid A over and over again. A seriously sick album.

Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

this is an illustration of a Pink Floyd song, done in gouache and watercolor. The concept of the song is that after you die your soul becomes a part of the sun, it doesn't have anything to do with space really.

faerie

A sketch for fun, I'm thinking about adding some art deco plants in the background.

idioteque

This is what I see when i listen to the Radiohead song Idioteque. If I make a painting of this idea the people will be dancing on the ice planet. Idioteque is a kind of satirical dance song and I think it has also has some global warming references, but it's the illest song on Kid A.

sketches

Just some characters from my sketch book. The one of the guy yelling is form what I thought of when I listened to Spitting Feathers by Thom Yorke. The goat is a creature called Shub Niggurath the Black goat with a thousand young. It appears in some Lovecraft stories.

This is my final for Whisperer in the Dark by HP Lovecraft. The type is Heaven and Hell in Gaelic. We had to design a phrase in a foreign language so you could tell what it says without reading it.

Saturday, October 24, 2009

This was an in class project where we had to make a spot for Nickelodeon something or other. So we had to choose the title from 4 different lists of part titles and put them together. Its only about 6x6" gouache

sketches

Some drawings.  the fish people are from HP Lovecrafts Shadow over Innsmouth.  The top drawing is what I think of when I listen to Weird Fishes Arpeggi.   I am starting an illustration about that song because I like it so much.

I'm so mad!

because I drew 9 legs on my crabs instead of eight!  I only noticed this when I was finished sadly.  I don't know what to name the story yet.  Still have to make line drawings for all other 25 pages by Tues

Figured I'd put these up just to have them on here.  I will be working on the rest of them over summer break.

This is my cover for Black and White Ill.  I was going for something like Beardsley.  I made the yellow color with tea leaves. It looks cool in real life.

A character sketch of Nyarlathotep.

Friday, March 20, 2009

A DVD cover for black and white illustration.  Wish I had more time to spend on the type.  I think this is the best gouache painting I've ever done.

Another painting for watercolor.  I found this bird freshman year outside the cafeteria.

This is for styles and concepts it is supposed to illustrate the word fear.  The finish will be in black gouache with colored lines.  I'm pretty excited about it.

More portraits
I always make myself look so angry

These  are from Mr. Wang's portrait drawing class (except the bugs).  Awesome class everyone should take it.
